A little over a year ago Venture Capatilist and Greentech advocate John Doerr spoke at a TED Conference concerning the topic of Greentech. Some of the statistics he shares are of course a bit out dated, but I wanted to post this video and review it because he has some wonderful insight to the emerging Greentech industry and the importance of it. Below is the video and below that are my notes. Enjoy the video:
* Walmarts very simple yet effective energy efficient tactics
* Walmart predicting to sell 100 million compact flourescent light bulbs
* How do you change consumer behavior? - talking about the average people like you and I when it comes to going green
* Policy is Paramount with greentech
* California’s Emission Plan is great, but it’s still NOT ENOUGH
* Brazil has 29,000 Ethenol pumps compared to only 700 in the United States
* Brazil went from 4% to 85% Flex Fuel with it’s new car fleets. Compare that to the U.S 5% Flex Fuel
* Brazil was able to replace 40% of their gasoline consumed by their auto fleet
* Exxon in 2005 made $1 Billion/day in revenue and only invested .2% in R&D
* 1,000 years worth of energy exist here in the United States in Geothermal and the Bush Administration has only allowed for $20 million investment from U.S Government towards GeoThermal. - NOT ENOUGH
* China is the Wild Card - China CO2 emmissions are 3.3GT (gigatons) compared to the United States 5.8GT (gigatons)
* Energy is the mother of all markets - $7 Trillion industry - the biggest economic opportunity for us in the 21st century is Greentech
* Make Green Your Next Big Thing!
